Piranesi's life and achievements.

1. 1720

   Born in Venice. During his early years starts his apprenticeship with his uncle, Matteo Lucchesi.

2. 1740

   Starts work in Rome as a draughtsman for Marco Foscarini. Starts his studies under Giuseppe Vasi, who introduced him to the art of etching and engraving.

3. 1743

   Collaborated with pupils of the French Academy in Rome and starts to produce a series of vedute (views) of the Rome. Prima parte di Architettura e Prospettive published (1743).

4. 1745

   Varie Vedute di Roma Antica e Moderna published (1745).

   Starts his work on the Carceri d'invenzione.

5. 1748

   Establishes his workshop in Via del Corso in Rome.

6. 1750

   First edition of Carceri d'invenzione published

7. 1761

   Beomes a member of the Accademia di San Luca, opens his own printing house.

   Second edition of Carceri d'invenzione published.

8. 1767

   Made a knight of the Golden Spur.

9. 1777

   Publishes his Avanzi degli Edifici di Pesto.
